“Confiscated Homes of West Jerusalem – Memory in Stone”

These homes once held the heartbeat of Palestinian Jerusalem. In Talbiyeh, Lower and Upper Baq‘a, and Qatamon, Palestinian families lived in architectural harmony — homes built with local Jerusalem stone, courtyards blooming with citrus trees, and facades bearing the soul of a sophisticated, urban Arab society. In 1948, war came — and so did forced exile. The residents were expelled. Their homes seized. Their names erased from the doors. But the stones still whisper. Today, Israeli families live in these villas, often unaware — or unwilling to acknowledge — that they are living inside someone else’s memory, someone else’s wound. I return with my camera, not to accuse, but to remember — and remind. Each photo is a silent testimony. A stolen address. A door that once opened to Arabic lullabies, now echoes in Hebrew silence.
